About me.

A major part of the creative fabric for my designs is travelling, discovering beautiful historical and contemporary architecture and taking in the vibrancy of far flung cites. I have always lived in an urban environment and that has greatly influenced my work. I am also influenced by strong women and the domestic spaces we live in. My mother was a tailoress and I grew up surrounded by all things sewing. From colourful cotton reels to clothes, embroidery and threads. I feel this ‘heritage’ is inherent in my work today. Couple this with an interest in travel, art and architecture I feel this gives my work a fully rounded sense of design, although sometimes on the surface it can seem diverse there is a clarity for me. I continually try to learn and experiment, sometimes it works sometimes not, however it all informs my processes and develops my thinking and creative practice.

I try throughout my work to be as sustainable as possible, it is through this that I have developed a collection of upcycled jewellery, which is both found and sourced but always pre-used or preloved in some way.

I hope you enjoy my designs.

Background

I have a background in contemporary fine art and worked for many years as an installation artist, working with embroidery thread, sometimes on a huge scale. although I have now moved into a new realm and material, I still have that same ethos. My work is always entrenched in the personal and collective feminine, I take the integrity of work from my belief that I source my design from an inner model of what is me. Having trained as a silversmith I generally used traditional silver and gold but moving through the process of working and design I find myself moving onto other materials and techniques. I find it fascinating that in my ever evolving learning practice I keep coming back to colour - and feel it is almost a circulatory journey.

Made by hand

Every one of my pieces has a history — from the relationship with the maker, to the life of the wearer. I design each of my pieces with the intention of creating jewellery that can be worn as a piece of wearable art, with minimal waste and minimal carbon footprint. My jewellery is all made in York, England with expertise in traditional methods of making jewellery by hand but adding a contemporary twist.

The diversity in my work comes from an ever evolving intrigue with the world around us, or at least the world I see or am able to see. Shown below are some images that interest me and inform my design process, which I feel gives me a diversity of design.
